The Friends of Music will present the first concert of their 2018-2019 season on Saturday, October 6.

The concert will feature the Two Rivers String Quartet. It will be held at 7:30 p.m. at the historic Trinity Episcopal Church in Shepherdstown.
Entitled “Bold and Beautiful,” it will include two works:

• Ludwig van Beethoven (1770-1827) –– String Quartet No. 1 in F major

• Alexander Borodin (1833-1887) –– String Quartet No. 2

This program contrasts the boldness and youthful exuberance of Beethoven’s first quartet with a Borodin quartet that is one of the most romantic chamber music works ever written. Several of the melodies in the Borodin piece are well-known today as songs that were popularized in the 1953 musical Kismet, such as “And this is my Beloved.”

Admission to the concert will be free for Friends of Music members. The ticket price for others will be $25 per person ($22.50 before September 23).

Tickets can be purchased on the Friends’ website at www.friendswv.org or by mail (FOM, PO Box 220, Shepherdstown, WV 25443). Visa and Master Card will be accepted.
