The Friends of Music are offering $500 scholarships to graduating high school seniors in the Eastern Panhandle
who have been accepted to college and will be majoring in a music-related field.

Tim Mason, a graduating senior at North Hagerstown High School, received a Friends of Music scholarship in May 2018.

Applications should contain the following:

1. A completed Friends of Music Application Form (for a copy, click on the “Education” link at the top of this website).

2. A written recommendation from a teacher on school letterhead.

3. A paragraph from the student explaining how he or she will use the scholarship, or why they have chosen to major in music and/or how they developed their interest in music.

4. The name of college or university you will be attending this fall and the music-related major you have chosen

The deadline to submit applications will be Wednesday, May 1, 2019.

No elaborate strings are attached. It is simply our intention that deserving students will use these funds for high-priority expenditures that directly further their musical education.

If your application is approved, we invite you and your parents to our May 18
concert for a check presentation. The concert will be held at Trinity Episcopal Church in Shepherdstown, and begin at 7:30 p.m. If you are unable to attend, we can arrange a mutually convenient time to present a check to you at your school.

In the meantime, if you have any questions please don’t hesitate to contact our office manager, Jennifer Perrotte at info@friendswv.org or 304-876-5765.

Founded in 1999, the Friends of Music is a local, non-profit organization that promotes musical excellence by supporting musical performances and opportunities for music education.

We pursue these missions through the organization and funding of a professional chamber orchestra and small chamber ensembles. We also provide grants to local schools and scholarships to local students.
